Global Crisis Communication 7,5 Credits

This course studies theories about risk society and cosmopolitanism, specifically in relation to the media in the communication of risks and global crises. For example, how do different media act when a crisis or a disaster happens? The course seeks to give the student specialized theoretical perspectives on the mediated communication of crises.

Course Contents

• The development of a global risk society
• The role of the media in communicating global risks and crises
• Cosmopolitanism and media reporting on global risks and crises

Prerequisites

The applicant must hold the minimum of a bachelor's degree (i.e. the equivalent of 180 ECTS credits at an accredited university) with at least 90 ECTS credits in media and/or communication studies, journalism or equivalent. English proficiency is required. Exemption is granted from the requirement in Swedish.
