Confident Speaking

Are you anxious about speaking in public? Then the course Confident Speaking might be something for you. The course focuses on learning how to manage speaking anxiety.

The course has a practical approach and is based on conversations and exercises aimed at improving your knowledge, self-confidence and skills when it comes to verbal communication. In order to reach these aims, regular attendance is necessary. Throughout the course, focus is put on acquiring knowledge of basic presentation techniques as well as performing practical exercises, which are carried out in small groups and in a comfortable environment. The exercises are individually adapted to each participant.

This course will not be offered during the fall of 2017.

Target Group

The course is aimed at students who experience difficulties and discomfort when performing public speaking, as for instance during oral presentations and similar.

Course Duration and Course Dates

The course consists of four sessions, each one with the duration of three hours. The maximum number of participants is 12.

Room: E2326, School of Engineering (building E)

Forms of Instruction

Short teaching sessions. Conversations and exercises in study groups. Individually adapted practical training in a comfortable environment. When needed, exercises may be connected with presentations and speeches of the participants. Each participant gives presentations continuously, where the degree of difficulty is individually adapted.

Literature

Material will be handed out.

Course Content

Session one

How to overcome fears and the tools applied in doing so. Insights, feelings, attitudes and skills in verbal communication.

Session two

How to set up and structure a presentation. Managing a script. Exercises.

Session three

How to make use of your personality. Useful tricks in preparing yourself mentally. Exercises.

Session four
How to use PowerPoint and other aids. Exercises.

Course Fee

The course fee is SEK 150. To be paid at the first session.

Selection and Admission

If the number of applicants exceeds the number of seats, a selection will be done based on the individual motivations.
