The project aims to develop two areas at the master’s level: human aspects of cybersecurity and cybersecurity and AI. Further, it aims to examine how these areas can be integrated into the programme’s other courses.

The project aims to develop a two-year master’s in cybersecurity with a particular focus on human aspects and AI. The project studies and analyzes how these two areas can be structured, developed, and integrated both as standalone courses and as integrated perspectives throughout the programme. The work includes benchmarking educational programmes, engaging in dialogue with industry partners, and analyzing competence needs. The background is an evolving threat landscape in which attacks exploit both technical vulnerabilities and human behaviors, and where AI is transforming both defensive and offensive methods. The aim is to ensure that future specialists develop technical, ethical, and human-centered competencies that meet societal needs.

Strengthening society’s resilience

The project contributes to strengthening society’s resilience to cyber threats by developing a two-year master’s programme in cybersecurity with a particular focus on human aspects of cybersecurity and cybersecurity and AI. By integrating human factors, ethics, and the dual use of AI (for both defense and offense), the project addresses the field’s most critical challenges. The programme responds to a growing competence need in both the public and private sectors and strengthens Sweden’s long-term skills supply. The project transfers current research-based knowledge to education and industry through co-production with industrial partners and integrates this knowledge into several courses in the programme. At the same time, companies contribute up-to-date, real-world cases.

Well-educated specialists

The project benefits students, industry, the public sector, and academia. Students gain expertise in cybersecurity with a specialization in human aspects and AI, enhancing their employability nationally and internationally. Companies and public authorities gain access to well-educated specialists capable of addressing both technical and human security challenges, as well as understanding the opportunities and risks associated with AI. Industrial partners benefit from influencing the programme’s content and gaining access to a future recruitment base. Academia is strengthened through increased collaboration, new research opportunities at the intersection of AI and cybersecurity, and long-term enhancements to the educational offering at JTH.
