Happiness and celebrations at Jönköping University’s graduation ceremonies

On 5 June, graduation ceremonies were held for approximately 1,450 students from the School of Health and Welfare, the School of Education and Communication, and the School of Engineering. On Sweden’s National Day, 6 June, Jönköping International Business School also held its graduation ceremony for just over 600 students. See the slideshow from the festivities below.

424 students graduated from the School of Health and Welfare

The School of Health and Welfare’s ceremony was held, as is tradition, at Pingstkyrkan, with speeches and scholarship awards. A new feature this year was the inclusion of alumni representatives who spoke about their career paths and the importance of networking.

All students from the biomedical analyst programme, specialization clinical physiology, had already secured jobs before graduation.

“It feels great to be standing here today. I’ll be starting work right away at the hospital in Värnamo in clinical physiology. It feels really great – indescribable. I’ve grown a lot, even as a person, and that’s thanks to our teachers,” said Matin Adel, one of the students who completed the programme.

“Not a single minute was wasted”

This year, the graduation ceremony for approximately 420 students was held in the JU Auditorium at the School of Education and Communication. The students were served bubbly and light refreshments during the reception held before the ceremonies (four ceremonies throughout the day). The ceremonies featured speeches, live music, and plenty of joy.

Camilla Piper has completed the KPU 60 (Supplementary Pedagogical Education) programme. She previously worked at a school in Kalmar and her principal at the time recommended the KPU programme to her, where she studied to become a business studies teacher.

“The programme was fantastic, not a single minute was wasted. I’ve been able to bring questions from my previous school experience into my studies, so it’s been amazing. The was a strong sense of cohesion in the class, and we’ve had great team spirit. I feel well-prepared for the future,” says Camilla Piper.

“It’s great to have a job lined up”

About 660 students from the School of Engineering attended the two graduation ceremonies at Jönköping Konsert & Kongress at Elmia. One of them was Joakim Johansson from Växjö, who studied Architectural Engineering. He has already landed a job as a construction consultant at Växjö Byggteknik.

“It’s awesome to have a job lined up! The job market is tough right now, but things are starting to turn around. More and more of my classmates have found jobs recently. Architectural Engineering is a broad programme that gives you a remarkably wide range of knowledge,” says Joakim.

Jérôme Landré, who teaches subjects such as web development, operating systems, and databases, was named Teacher of the Year at the School of Engineering.

A grand celebration at Spira for JIBS students

On Sweden’s National Day, 601 students and their families gathered at Kulturhuset Spira for Jönköping International Business School’s (JIBS) graduation ceremony. There was a great deal of joy and anticipation, and each group of students presented was met with applause and cheers in Spira’s packed concert hall.

Kwabena Binka, an International Economics student, feels that his time in Jönköping has been great, with talented fellow students and professors. Between hugs and conversations with his mum, he spoke about his plans for the future.

“Right now, I’m looking forward to starting my master’s degree, but over the summer I’m just going to take it easy. It might be here in Jönköping, but it could also be Stockholm or Malmö. But I’ll always come back to visit Jönköping because I love the city,” he says.

For Brianna Elena Zafiu, who has studied International Management, it was an emotional day meeting everyone she has spent time with at the university over the past three years and seeing them all gathered in one place for the first time.

“It’s a really nice feeling to see everyone, and I think everyone is excited about what the future has to offer. I also feel that I have a solid degree under my belt. I haven’t applied for a master’s programme yet, but I’m definitely considering it for the future,” says Brianna Elena Zafiu.
