Nine out of ten JU students find work shortly after graduation

As many as 87 per cent of students who graduated from Jönköping University (JU) in the 2022/23 academic year had entered the labour market within 1–1.5 years. This is according to a new report from the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ), in which the result places JU well above the national average and among the highest-ranked universities in Sweden that have a broad range of degree programmes.

There have been several recent media reports suggesting that recent graduates are struggling to find jobs. However, the latest follow-up from UKÄ shows that students who have studied at JU continue to make a successful transition into the labour market. The proportion of people who find work quickly has also increased slightly compared with the previous survey. JU is among the strongest multi-disciplinary universities in the country when it comes to students’ success in the labour market.

“This is clear evidence that our programmes provide the knowledge and skills that employers are looking for. A very high proportion of our students move straight into work after graduation,” says Thomas Winman, JU’s Vice President for Education.

At a national level, the report shows that higher education is a sound investment for the future. As many as 85 per cent of the country’s graduates had secured a position in the labour market shortly after graduation. For many individual degree programmes, the figures are even higher; for example, civil engineers had an employment rate of 94 per cent, business graduates 92 per cent and nurses 91 per cent.

Close collaboration with employers yield results

JU has extensive collaboration with employers and the wider professional community. Through projects, work placements, work-integrated learning and collaboration with businesses, the public sector and organizations, students gain valuable experience and contacts whilst still studying and are well prepared when they enter the labour market.
