Medal success for JU at the Swedish Student Rowing Championships

Despite challenging weather conditions and tough competition, the Swedish Student Rowing Championships proved a success for the Jönköping University Rowing Association (JURA). When Jönköping hosted both the Swedish Rowing Championships and the Swedish Student Rowing Championships on 19–20 September, JU students took home a total of eight medals.

Over 1,000 rowers gathered in Jönköping over the weekend as the Swedish Championships, the Swedish Student Championships, the Swedish Junior Championships and the Federation Championships were held on Lake Munksjön. The competitions attracted participants from across the country, and for JURA, the weekend proved a great success.

One of the weekend’s silver medals came in the women’s student doubles, where Caroline van Rijckevorsel rowed alongside Zsófia Kozák.

“It went really well. We came second and are very pleased with the time we achieved,” says Zsófia Kozák.

New eight contributes to silver

Over the autumn, JU has supported the club with a new classic eight-oared boat, an initiative that contributes to an active student life with a focus on community, cooperation, and health. The boat got off to a promising start when JURA took silver in the mixed eight class at the Swedish Student Championships.

Caroline has been chair of JURA for three years and enjoys meeting students who want to give rowing a go and then seeing them develop and come to love the sport as much as she does.

“I think we’re incredibly privileged to be able to row right in the city centre. It’s something other clubs don’t have, and to be able to showcase this to other clubs and host them – I think that’s really impressive,” says Caroline.
