JU improves its position in the Times Higher Education rankings
Jönköping University (JU) has improved its position in the Times Higher Education rankings of the world’s leading higher education institutions. In this year’s rankings, JU is placed in the 701–800 range, compared with 801–1,000 last year.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings (abbreviated to the THE rankings) were launched in 2004 and are regarded as one of the most established international university rankings. Higher education institutions worldwide are assessed on the basis of five different criteria: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry engagement.
In this year’s ranking, JU is placed in the 701–800 range, compared with 801–1000 last year. JU’s strongest area remains international outlook, where the university ranks in the top 500 worldwide and the top eight in Sweden. Other strong areas for JU are research quality and research environment.

Executive Vice President Eleonor Fransson
“The THE ranking shows that, as a high-profile and international university, we can hold our own on the global stage. This result is a recognition of our staff’s commitment and our strategic work in education, research and internationalization,” says Eleonor Fransson, Executive Vice President at Jönköping University.
As in previous years, this year’s THE ranking is topped by British and American universities, but several Asian institutions are making strong gains. For the first time, three Asian universities have made it into the top 15, and overall, Asia has overtaken Europe in the list.
