Individuals also have a great personal responsibility to stay home if they show any symptoms, even mild, to keep distance and to wash their hands.

No decisions will be taken before the travel restriction is removed from the individual student’s specific country and region
Information for students who have not yet left Sweden for their field study
All MFS field studies are postponed until further notice. When the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Utrikesdepartementet) revise the travel restrictions and again allow people to travel abroad, students need to prove following:
- Information from the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs that shows the travel restriction is lifted;
- Updated confirmation from your thesis supervisor; and
- Updated confirmation from contact person in the field.
The documentation needs to be confirmed by the MFS Coordinator before booking an airline ticket. In these cases, JU needs to consider paragraph 23 in MFS general terms and conditions 2019 in regards to risk assessment of regions/countries that may not be suitable for students due to health, security and possibility to conduct the field study.
Find the MFS general terms and conditions 2019 (in Swedish) via this link.
What happens if I am allowed to travel but the situation changes during the course of my MFS?
If you undertake your MFS and the travel restrictions change again then you are obligate to follow instructions of Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Utrikesdepartementet).
If the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' travel information is introduced, or changed, after student’s departure and:
- "advises against unnecessary travel"
- "advises against all travel"
MFS coordinator at JU should, in consultation with the relevant foreign authorities and MFS participants decide whether it is appropriate to stay in the country or return to Sweden.
If the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' travel information is introduced, or changed, after student’s departure and:
- "urges Swedes to leave the country / territory"
MFS coordinator should ensure that the project participant immediately follows the advice and leaves the country / territory.

Students starting programme at JU Autumn 2020
Will the Autumn semester 2020 start on time?
Yes, the autumn semester will start on 17 August and a decision to resume on campus education has been made.
Can I defer my studies until Autumn 2021 if I am unable to arrive, due to the current situation?
Yes. We are aware that this extraordinary situation may prohibit you from starting your studies with us as planned in August 2020. You may apply for deferment due to the current situation. JU will be flexible when considering applications for deferment. More information here: https://ju.se/student/en/studies/deferment-accreditation-and-change-of-programme.html
Can I get a full refund if I am not able to arrive to start the program, due to the current situation with the coronavirus?
Yes. If you are unable to arrive by the start of your program, you are eligible for a full refund as long as your request reaches us before the start of the semester. We will also waive the administrative fee due to the situation. Contact Admissions.Office@ju.se for more information.
Will the coronavirus crisis affect my application for a residence permit for studies?
The Swedish Migration Agency is well equipped to issue residence permits for studies for the 2020/2021 Academic Year. Thus, the assessment from the Migration Agency is that their handling of cases will not be affected by the prevailing pandemic. Resources and services at certain embassies and consulates, however, may be limited due to the pandemic in some countries.
According to the information from Swedish Migration Agency, we advise the following:
- Students who are citizens of a country that require a visa, are advised to start with the visa application procedure as normal. Please see more via this link
.
- Since Jönköping University’s directional decision is to start the studies on campus, the Swedish Migration Agency will be able to grant you a residence permit.
- We strongly encourage students to start the visa application directly after accepting your offer and paying the tuition fee installment (and lodging fee for pathway students).
- You can read the Swedish Migration Agency FAQ with more information about how studies in Sweden are affected by the coronavirus via this link
.
- More information about applying for a residence permit can be found via this link.
Students starting Pathway Programmes at JU
This section of the FAQ is specifically for Pathway Programme students who are starting their studies in the spring semester 2021.
Will the Pathway programme start as planned?
Yes, but there will be a digital start of the Pathway Semester Spring 2021 and the online teaching will at a maximum continue for half a semester. The programme will then be a blended model – a combination of both online and on-campus education. When it is possible for students to travel to Campus Gränna, the transition will be made to on-campus education. This will offer a flexible and dynamic way of learning.
Can I defer my admission to Pathway for next intake?
It is not possible to defer your admission to Pathway Semester Spring 2021 for next intake because the Pathway Programmes will change from the autumn semester 2021. Therefore, you will need to re-apply for the new programme, Pathway Semester English.
Can I have the boarding fee refunded if I take Pathway online?
You can have part of the boarding fee refunded for Pathway Semester Spring 2021 which covers housing, food, and bus pass for the time you are studying online.
If I cancel my admission, how much refund of the tuition fee can I receive?
If you cancel your admission by notifying pathwayadmissions@ju.se before the official start of the Pathway Programme you are admitted to (written on your Letter of Acceptance), you can receive a full refund without any deductions (except bank transfer costs).
If you wish to reapply in the future, admission is not guaranteed.
How do I confirm online study or cancel my admission?
Send an e-mail to pathwayadmissions@ju.se before the start of the study and explain your reason.
If you have any other questions about Pathway Programmes, please contact pathwayadmissions@ju.se
