Paraskeva Wlazlak's doctoral dissertation will help to improve and expand knowledge about the industrialization process.
- It contributes to shorter lead times and better alignment between product and production system, says Paraskeva Wlazlak, who thinks Jönköping University is the best possible working environment.
Paraskeva Wlazlak recently defended her doctoral dissertation at the Technical University of Jönköping and got it approved. The dissertation is called "Management of the industrialization process in distributed geographical and organizational contexts".
Paraskeva Wlazlak has focused on the work on industrialization, that is, the transfer of the product to production and involves both product development and production. During the industrialization process, various disturbances often occur, which can delay production start and prolong production ramp-up, Paraskeva Wlazlak points out.
- The purpose of the dissertation is expanding the knowledge on the industrialisation process in distributed geographical and/or organisational contexts with a focus on challenges and mechanisms; this will serve to control the challenges during the industrialisation process, says Paraskeva Wlazlak.
Globalization and shorter product lifecycles create challenges for manufacturing companies. Companies nowadays often have research, development and factories spread all over the world. These trends are changing the context in which the industrialization process takes place. To date, most research has focused on industrialization in a local and intra-organizational context, but according to Paraskeva Wlazlak, knowledge about the industrialization process needs to be improved in geographically and / or organizational distributed context. This means studying industrialization in local and interorganizational context (type 2), international and intraorganizational context (type 3) and international and interorganizational context (type 4).
A central conclusion of her research is that when industrialization processes are carried out in geographically and / or organizationally distributed context, flexibility is needed in the use of the mechanisms linked to the dynamics found in the contexts above.
Paraskeva Wlazlak admits that there have been tough periods over the years as a doctoral student. For example she has worked on short deadlines with a lot of writing to complete. At the same time, she has had a lot of fun.
- I think Jönköping University is the best possible work environment and I have always enjoyed meeting my colleagues and supervisors, she says.
She had mixed feelings during the defense. She saw it as a chance to discuss her research with others outside Jönköping University and an opportunity to disseminate her results. She was also nervous.
- It was a bit stressful, but also fun, she says.
In the future, she will be the program manager for the master's program "Production Development and Management" at the Technical University of Jönköping. She is involved in a project called Bytterfly Effect and will continue to work on issues regarding the integration between product development and production.
