Daniel Masterson

Assistant Professor

Daniel is an Assistant Professor in Quality Improvement and Leadership in Health and Welfare at Jönköping Academy for Improvement of Health and Welfare. Daniel is the examiner and teacher for our Co-production in Health and Welfare course and teaches on the Quality Improvement and Leadership masters programme.

Daniel’s research focus is on exploring, measuring and enhancing co-production at the national, regional and local levels in health & social care.

Daniel’s background is within social psychology and health psychology with over twelve years’ experience in mixed-methods research with multi-disciplinary and international research teams. Daniel has several ongoing research papers within health communication, the natural environment and health (www.phenotype.eu) and healthy urban planning. Previous work has involved exploring voice, choice and coproduction on the Cooperation in Science and Technology project  (COST ISO903). Daniel’s work has been recognised by the British Psychological Society where he was awarded the Early Career Practitioner Award in 2017.

In 2015, Daniel defended his Professional Doctorate thesis at Staffordshire University with research on “Communication in the Consultation: the impact of health communication on recall and patient satisfaction”; “Understanding people’s experiences of complex terminology in medical consultations” and “A degree of difference: a systematic review comparing graduate and diploma pre-registration nurse training”.

Daniel’s practice background is in health psychology and he is a charted psychologist with the British Psychological Society and the European Federation of Psychologists.
