Doctoral student of the month - December 2011
My name is Mikaela Backman and I am from Skåne, in the South of Sweden.
I started my carrier here at JIBS as a research assistant. That experience gave me insights about what to expect from becoming a Ph.D. candidate. So when the opportunity came to become a Ph.D. candidate I did not hesitate to take it.
JIBS was a natural choice since I completed my undergraduate studies here. After the year as a research assistant I also got to know my fellow Ph.D. candidates and all other researchers here at Economics, Finance and Statistics and I like them as well as the working environment.
My main field of research is regional economics, within this field I study how human capital affects regional development.
The best thing about JIBS is the inspiring environment with colleagues that are genuinely interested in their research and always have time to discuss problems, difficulties and possible solutions to other individuals research questions. It is an environment where you help others by coming with useful suggestions as well as constructive criticism.
