My name is Sofia Wixe and I was born and raised in Huskvarna, which is the twin city of Jönköping.
Doing a Phd was something I thought about already during my time as a student at the Business Administration and Economics Programme at Linköping University. At the time my main driving force was the urge to learn more within the field of economics. After graduation, I stayed in Linköping as a lecturer, and it was during that time JIBS announced that they were looking for new PhD candidates. I didn’t know much about JIBS at that time, despite almost being from Jönköping. But I have never regretted the decision to apply for a position here.
My research interest is in regional economics, with a focus on spatial externalities and human capital spillovers. I mainly focus on the role of diversity, in both space and human capital, for the economic performance of regions, firms and individuals.
The best thing about working at JIBS is the open and welcoming atmosphere. The door is always open to both fellow PhD candidates and senior researchers. Through seminars and informal discussions I develop daily, both as a person and in my research. That JIBS is an international workplace with much diversity is of course also positive!
