How to apply
The exchange programme is open to students coming from one of School of Education and Communication’s partner universities. Students from these partner universities are welcome to apply as exchange students to of School of Education and Communication.
Once selected and nominated by their home university, they are required to apply to the School of Education and Communication. All nominated students will receive a username and a password by e-mail with which they are able to apply online, fill out the personal information and select our courses.

Required documents
- Choice of Course Confirmation
After filling our online application form, students must confirm their chosen courses by their home university. Students do this by printing out a Choice of Course Confirmation form and have it signed by their coordinator at their home university. After both the student and the coordinator have undersigned, students must e-mail this document to the School of Education and Communication.
- Transcript of records
The transcript of records is an official document issued by your home university, which includes courses and grades of previous and current higher education study. This document is needed to be able to check the student’s eligibility for their chosen courses.
The required documents must be uploaded to the online application system before the application deadline.
Last day to apply and to send the required documents
- May 1 for students wishing to begin studies in August (autumn/fall semester)
- October 15 for students wishing to begin studies in January (spring semester). The application documents must reach School of Education and Communication by these deadlines.
The Letter of Acceptance (LoA)
The application can take between 2 to 3 weeks to be processed. We kindly ask for your patience. Students within Europe will only receive the letters of acceptance by email (if they don’t request the originals). Students from outside Europe will receive the LoA by email and to the home address in order to apply for VISA.
Selecting courses
Full time load per semester is 4 courses equal to 30 credits. Each semesters is divided into two quarters, and full-time study is considered to be two courses per quarter, four courses per semester or eight courses per year. Bachelor level students may only select courses in the Bachelor level. Master level students may select courses in both Bachelor and Master level.
Courses that do not attract a minimum number of participant may be cancelled. In addition, it is possible that some courses may clash with each other. In both cases students must reconsider their choice of courses and where possible choose another course. Thus, it is important that all exchange students select multiple alternative courses in the online application that can be used in case of a student has to change their courses. School of Education and Communication also reserves the right to limit exchange student enrolment in classes that are at capacity.
General requirements
The general prerequisites for all exchange students are the following:
- All students must fulfill the pre-requisites for each chosen course. When signing the JU Course Confirmation the home university certifies that the student meet the requirements for each chosen course.
- Bachelor-level students: One year of completed university studies within the relevant field of study.
- Master-level students: Students are required to have the equivalency of a bachelor degree of at least 3 years (180 ECTS credits).
English language requirement
Fluency in English equivalent to a TOEFL score of at least 575 with at least 4,5 in ”Written test (TWE)” (paper based), 213 with at least 4,0 in ”Essay Rating” (computer-based) or 90 with at least 20 in ”Written test (TWE) (internet based). IELTS: with an overall band score of 6.5 and no part under 5.5.
Although language test scores are not formally required, all students are expected to meet the university's minimum English requirements and students must receive a signature from a representative of their home university guaranteeing their fluency in English.
Students without the adequate level of English run the risk of failing the course.
