Communicating Nations: Media and National Identities 10 Credits

This course invites students to think critically about ideas of nationhood and the ways that the media is involved in their creation, maintenance and dissemination. It engages students to reflect on the meanings ascribed to nationhood and to consider the media's contribution to them.

Course Contents

• The historical evolution of ideas of nationhood within local, national and global contexts
• Representations of nationhood in the media
• The role of the nation in the contemporary media landscape
• The ways in which political and social groups use media outlets to tell their story

Prerequisites

30 credits first-cycle courses in any educational area.
Fluency in English equivalent to at least 575 (paper based) or 90 (internet based) TOEFL score. Exemption is granted from the requirement in Swedish.
