Updated declaration of responsibility to strengthen IT security

This spring, the declaration of responsibility for all user accounts at Jönköping University will be updated. The update is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen IT security and clarify user responsibility. The new terms have a simplified structure and a clearer framework.

This spring, an updated declaration of responsibility will come into force for all staff and student accounts at Jönköping University. From 21 May, the new version will automatically apply to all users.

The declaration describes the rules governing the use of JU’s IT services and IT resources, as well as the responsibilities of each user. The update will not entail any changes to daily work for most as it is primarily aimed at clarifying responsibilities and strengthening security regarding the university’s information, systems and personal data.

Part of a broader security initiative

The work on the declaration of responsibility is one of several steps in JU’s long-term commitment to IT security. Clearer rules and a shared understanding of user responsibility reduce the risk of incidents and unauthorized access.

The new declaration of responsibility has a simplified structure and a clearer framework. It clarifies:

  • The purpose of user accounts, IT equipment, and other IT resources
  • That everything related to logging in, such as usernames, passwords, codes, etc., must be kept confidential
  • Rules and information regarding the deletion of accounts

The new declaration of responsibility comes into effect automatically, meaning that users do not need to take any action or re-accept the terms.

Next step: changes to the password policy

As the next step in JU’s IT security work, changes to the password policy are planned for the autumn. The aim is to further strengthen protection against unauthorized access to JU’s systems. Further information on what the new password policy entails and when it will come into effect will be communicated well in advance of the changes taking effect.
