Students are satisfied with JU

The International Student Barometer (ISBSB) shows that Jönköping University (JU) has high student satisfaction and strong results in several key areas. This applies in particular to the welcome, study environment, and digital resources. At the same time, areas for improvement are evident, including those linked to student engagement, willingness to recommend JU, and certain aspects of the study experience from an international perspective.

The Student Barometer is an international survey of students’ experiences of education, campus environment, and career preparation. It provides an overall picture of how students perceive their time at their institution. At Jönköping University, the response rate was 27 per cent, which is slightly higher than comparable levels in Sweden, Europe, and globally.

Several strong areas

The results show that 90 per cent of the students who responded are satisfied with their education, in line with both national and international levels. Student induction also receives good ratings, with an equal proportion stating that they had a positive introduction. At the same time, several aspects of the study environment stand out. All students state that they are satisfied with the library and digital resources, and the learning environments are rated highly even from an international perspective. Student community, teachers’ language skills, and career planning are also highlighted as clear strengths.

The survey shows that many students choose JU based on factors such as future career opportunities and the content of the programmes. The digital study environment is well established, and a large proportion of students use AI-based tools in their studies.

Increase the willingness to recommend

At the same time, a more nuanced picture emerges in certain comparisons. 87 per cent are satisfied with their studies, which is slightly below the global average. Support from external recruitment channels such as recruitment agents is also below international levels.

A key area for improvement at JU concerns students’ willingness to recommend the University. Only 13 per cent state that they would actively recommend JU, which is lower than at comparable higher education institutions. Furthermore, half of the students state that they have good contact with Swedish students, indicating a need to develop social integration.

JU has a solid foundation

Overall, the results show that JU has a solid foundation with high-quality education and a good study environment, whilst there are clear opportunities to further develop student engagement and the overall student experience.

The results of the survey will now be followed up with JU’s students to gain a deeper understanding of, in particular, the areas for improvement that exist.
