Fees and Costs
Tuition fees are waived in the exchange agreement, but you must cover non-tuition costs (administration fees, applications fees, deposits, language courses etc.), travel expenses, insurance, cost for student permit or student visa and living expenses (accommodation, food etc.). It is your responsibility to buy flight tickets, make visa arrangements, organize your accommodation, ensure you have an adequate medical insurance and so on. If you are a fee-paying student at JU, studying abroad as an exchange student, you pay your tuition fee at JU per normal.
CSN (Swedish Student Loan Agency)
The information about your exchange semester is updated in Ladok and available for CSN (no CSN documents are required). If you would like to apply for an additional loan (merkostnadslån), we will provide you with a letter to support your application. Do not apply for an additional loan called "study/internship trip". Instead the additional loan should be called "exchange studies" or "travel associated with exchange studies". For more information see Merkostnadslån.
It is extremely important to apply for a whole study year at the same time. If you study abroad one semester you must send in two applications to CSN; one for the study abroad semester and one for the regular study semester in Sweden.
A scholarship is a financial contribution which is given by foundations, associations, companies, banks and trade associations. Scholarships awarded for educational purposes are usually free of tax. It is a good idea to check with the contact person at the partner university's International Office to inquire about any appropriate scholarships.
For studies within Europe you may apply for a scholarship within Erasmus+. For studies in the Nordic countries, there are scholarships within the network Nordplus.
You can find more information about scholarships if you visit the following link: ju.se/student/en/exchange/scholarships.html
There is also scholarship information available at the notice board of the School of Engineering, at the Career Center and at the library.
Important information for international students
There are special rules for international students regarding tuition fees/course fees at the Jönköping University in connection with exchange studies. Attend the offered information sessions and contact your study councellor for more information.
