The doctoral student Monika Hencovas från Slovak University of Technology and her supervisor at the School of Engineering, Professor Lars Eriksson.

“I am looking forward to meetings and collaborations at JTH - and ‘fika’,” says Monika Honcova from the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU), and smiles. She is at JTH through EULiST. Next to her is her supervisor Lars Eriksson, Professor of Industrial Design at JTH.

Double EULiST exchanges at JTH

Monika Hencova, PhD student from Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU), is doing an EULiST exchange at the School of Engineering (JTH) at Jönköping University (JU) 1-31 May.

“I have been very well received and look forward to working with the staff at the school,” says Monika Hencova.

This autumn, another EULiST exchange will take place at JTH, with the Finnish LUT University.

Monika Hencova’s research focuses on demographic changes and new requirements for architecture and design adapted to people with disabilities. She also investigates how to facilitate older people in their daily activities. She will be at the Department of Product Development, Production and Design at JTH and has discussed various research ideas with her supervisor Lars Eriksson, Professor of Industrial Design at JTH.

“I feel that I have time to devote to research and am open for suggestions. Everyone I have met here speaks good English and that is certainly a great advantage,” says Monika.

"A good impression"

She also talks about presenting her research to students. She has a good impression of JU and thinks it has a nice and modern campus. She is impressed by the technical equipment in JTH's laboratories and applauds the fact that students have great access to them. She has a scheduled company visit with Thule during her time at JTH, which she is very much looking forward to. Monika appreciates the proximity to networking and development that EULiST offers and that the universities can learn from each other.

“Good research exchanges lead to more co-operation,” she says.

"Fantastic opportunities"

Lars Eriksson believes that EULiST offers fantastic opportunities for students and staff to go on short-term exchanges.

“More people should take the opportunity to learn about research and teaching from universities in other countries and make valuable contacts for the future. It is good and very revitalizing. I believe in the personal meeting, and we get a lot of that through EULiST,” says Lars Eriksson.

AI for operational tasks

This autumn, PhD student Maryam Gulzar from LUT University in Lappeenranta, Finland, will also be doing an EULiST exchange at JTH between 17 August and 19 September. Her research focuses on the use of AI for operational tasks within organizations. She will be supervised by Annika Engström, Associate Professor of Work Organisation at JTH.
