Joy and pride at the School of Engineering's graduation ceremony

About 640 students from the School of Engineering (JTH) at Jönköping University (JU) participated in the school's graduation ceremony at Jönköping Concert & Congress at Elmia in Jönköping on 28 May.

"They will make a difference in the business community both in the region, Sweden and the world," says Ingrid Wadskog, Managing Director and Dean at JTH.

JTH's graduation ceremony was divided into two sessions and the picture shows half of the approximately 640 graduates.

The students marched programme by programme up to the stage in Hammarskjöld Hall at Jönköping Concert & Congress where they received applause and cheers from family and friends. Sven Emilsson from Stockholm, who has studied Graphic Design and Web Development at JTH, thought the graduation celebration at Elmia was fun and atmospheric. He describes his education with words like "super good" and "creative" and emphasizes that he has thrived in Jönköping.

"A school with students in focus"

"I think Jönköping is much more of a student city than Stockholm. I wanted to study at a school where the students are in focus and I have really experienced that here. The campus is right in the center of Jönköping and if you go out in the evenings you always see students out on the town. There are good teachers and great cohesion at JTH and Jönköping is a super nice city, says Sven Emilsson.

He does not want to leave JTH yet and has applied for the school's one year master's programme in cybersecurity this autumn.

"It contains many courses that I am interested in and it is a way for me to stay in student life at JTH. I am super excited about that."

"The best life you can have"

Maryzabel Moucha, Sandra Oschana and Natalia Matti have all studied the master's programme Sustainable Building Information Management and before that Construction Engineering: Architectural Engineering at JTH. They say that they have enjoyed their five years at JTH and have learned a lot that will benefit them in their professional life.

"It will feel strange not to study at JTH anymore and we will miss the freedom of student life and all the fun things we do together," says Natalia Matti.

"We have had very good cohesion in our class and student life is the best life you can have, but it feels like we are done with it after all now, says Sandra Oschana.

They found the graduation ceremony solemn, and that it was emotional to share that experience with their families. Maryzabel Moucha has already been hired as a Project Manager at Sweco, where she will, among other things, create drawings and 3D models in CAD (Computer-Aided Design).

"I will be working with computer programs that we have used during our studies at JTH, so I feel well prepared for the job," says Maryzabel Moucha.

"Pride and joy"

Ingrid Wadskog felt pride and joy as she looked out over all the JTH students in Hammarskjöld Hall, dressed in their yellow JTH scarves.

"This is the result of many years of work both for them and for us. I want to send them the message that they should continue to be curious and learn things throughout their lives and that they are welcome to stay in touch with us at JTH," says Ingrid Wadskog.

The graduation ceremony was led by Patrik Cannmo, Associate Dean of Education at JTH, and ended traditionally with students standing and singing Tommy Körberg's "Stad i ljus".
