New Master of Science in Engineering programme in high demand by the construction industry
This fall, the five-year Master of Science in Engineering, Building technology programme will launch at the School of Engineering (JTH), Jönköping University (JU).
"It will be of great importance to us," says Mattias Carlsson, CEO of Blue Wall Construction AB and chairman of the Jönköping County Master Builders' Association.

The Master of Science in Engineering, Building technology has been developed in close cooperation with the construction industry and will maintain strong industry connections. Mattias Carlsson highlights the programme´s relevance.
"It is crucial to attract talented construction students who may then stay in the region. This will allow construction companies in Jönköping to develop and grow. If the construction industry is to meet the demands of a major expansion when the economy rebounds, we need to integrate higher technolog content into our products - and for that then we need this expertise," says Mattias Carlsson.
Can attract more women to the industry
The construction industry is in need of more women, and Mattias Carlsson believes that the new programme at JTH can help by opening doors to attractive and well-paid jobs with excellent career development opportunities.
The master of Science in Engineering, Building technology programme at JTH aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of building technology, with a focus on sustainable urban development and digital transformation. Students will take courses in project management, sustainable construction, AI and digital tools such as BIM (Building Information Modeling).
"Breadth and excellence"
"The programme offers both breadth and excellence, which is exactly what the construction industry needs. Students will learn advanced calculation methods, leadership skills, and how to oversee an entire building project - from initial conceptto deconstructiong and reuse," says Andreas Briggert, programme manager and Assistant Professor Building Projects at JTH.
He sees the new programme as a strong complement to JTH's existing construction programmes and believes it is an excellent opportunity for students looking to start a career in construction engineering this fall. His views are shared by Patrik Cannmo, Associate Dean of Education at JTH.
"Graduates will be highly sought after"
"The construction industry is facing a challenging period right now, but by the time our first students graduate from this programme in five years, the market will have recovered, and they will be in high demand," says Patrik Cannmo.
He explains that launching and establishing high-quality, in-demand engineering programmes is part of JTH’s long-term strategy. This is JTH’s third Master of Science in Engineering programme, following Industrial Product Realisation (introduced in 2018), and Computer Science and Engineering (introduced in 2021).
