Jönköpings-Posten surprises Resident of the month in Jönköping.

Jönköpings-Posten surprised Kharin Abrahamsson, Laboratory Technologist at the School of Engineering (JTH), with the Resident of the Month award in Jönköping during a lesson.

Kharin named Resident of the Month in Jönköping

Kharin Abrahamsson, Laboratory Technologist at the School of Engineering (JTH), Jönköping University, has been named Jönköping's Resident of the Month for her work with September Lights.

"What an honor! This is absolutely fantastic," says Kharin Abrahamsson to Jönköpings-Posten, Jönköping’s local newspaper who organizes the award.

The newspaper surprised Kharin during a lesson at JTH and she was both happy and moved by the award.

"This is so wonderful. Who should I thank? This is a huge honour for me," she says.

Has led September Lights since the start

September Light is organized every year by students studying the Lighting Design and Lighting Technology programme at JTH in collaboration with Jönköping municipality. Kharin has led the work since the start back in 2015 and, fittingly, she became Jönköping's Resident of the month for September.

Ingrid Wadskog, Managing Director and Dean at JTH, describes Kharin as a warm and appreciated colleague and teacher.

"Kharin is a very competent teacher with a great commitment, which is contagious to both her students and colleagues," says Ingrid Wadskog.

She highlights September Lights as a beautiful, professional and much-appreciated event in the autumn darkness, which attracts many visitors.

Nina Andersson, Head of Department of Construction Engineering and Lighting Science at JTH, emphasizes that Kharin is of great importance to September Lights, that she is a much appreciated colleague and that the students love her for her commitment.

"Creating something amazing together"

Johanna Glans, Lecturer and Programme Manager for Lighting Design and Lighting Technology at JTH, describes Kharin as a good colleague who is always there for you.

"There are never any problems with her and she is always ready to help. When you meet alumni from the Lighting Design and Lighting Technology programme, it is always the outdoor courses such as September Lights that they remember most fondly. They develop such a strong bond when they are out at night and creating something amazing together," says Johanna Glans.

Both Nina and Johanna think that Kharin is a great candidate for Jönköping's Resident of the Month and that she should be well placed to also win the title of Jönköping's Resident of the Year, which is awarded in December.

Happy women in a room.

The celebrations continue for Kharin Abrahamsson, who also got married on 4 October and turned 60 in August.

The nomination

"Since 2015, Septemberljus has been a popular feature that has lit up Jönköping and helped residents discover new parts of their city.

The students, who are in their second year of the Lighting Design and Lighting Technology programme, are new every year - but Kharin is the one who keeps the initiative going. Here, she goes the extra mile by getting the students to deliver and work together to create the festival, all in the name of sustainability. The result literally lights up the lives of Jönköping residents.

That's why Kharin Abrahamsson is Jönköping Citizen of the Month for September 2025."
