MMTC Hosts Lunch Seminar on Sustainability with Jönköping County Representatives

On March 26, MMTC welcomed representatives from the Jönköping County Administrative Board for a lunch seminar focused on sustainability. The event aimed to deepen understanding of the county’s ongoing sustainability initiatives, exchange knowledge, and explore opportunities for future collaboration between academia and the public sector.

“The aim is to create new collaborations and see where we can meet. My hope is that this will lead to joint research ideas and opportunities on the teaching side, such as customized courses developed in partnership with the county,” said Professor Leona Achtenhagen, Centre Director

Around 15 researchers from JIBS participated in the seminar, which included an overview of the role of Sweden’s county administrative boards and their work in promoting sustainable development. For many attending researchers, especially those new to Sweden, this provided useful context.

Mikaela Dinu Billström, Social Sustainability Coordinator at the Jönköping County Administrative Board, highlighted the value of academic dialogue:
“That we collaborate with each other is important for us to get somewhere within the 2030 Agenda. It’s two different worlds, and when we meet, it always becomes very interesting.”

The seminar is part of MMTC’s broader efforts to strengthen collaboration with regional stakeholders and contribute to sustainable development through research, education, and mutual exchange. It also forms part of MMTC’s strategic focus on Sustainability, one of the centre’s key research areas.
