MMTC Researcher Marcel Garz Co-Organizes Leading Workshop on Media Bias
The 8th Economics of Media Bias Workshop was successfully held on May 8–9, 2025, at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, bringing together researchers from economics, political science, communication, and media studies to explore the evolving landscape of bias in traditional and digital media.

Co-organized by MMTC researcher Marcel Garz, the event focused on empirical and theoretical work that investigates the economic roots and social consequences of various types of media bias. Topics included ideological and advertiser-driven bias, misinformation, attention manipulation, and representation of minorities.
A highlight of the event was the keynote address by Elliott Ash (ETH Zurich), who shared insights into how media systems interact with democratic institutions and legal frameworks.
Alongside Marcel, the organizing team included Felix Chopra (Frankfurt School), Milena Djourelova (Cornell University), and Sophie Hatte (ENS de Lyon).
The Economics of Media Bias Workshop series continues to serve as a vital forum for advancing critical research into the role of media in society, especially amid growing concerns around trust, polarization, and platform accountability.
