Charlotta Mellander appointed new Director of CEnSE
Charlotta Mellander will take up her new position as Director of CEnSE on 1 May 2023. The duration of the appointment is three years.
You have a long history at JIBS. Can you tell a bit about it?
I have been at JIBS for a long time. I started as a PhD student in 2001 and defended my dissertation in 2008. After that, I shared my time between JIBS and Rotman School of Management for eight years before returning to JIBS again. While I've spent some time away, JIBS has always been my home.
What appeals to you about the role of Director of CEnSE, and what do you hope to contribute?
I am taking over after Mikaela Backman, and that is not something that can be done easily. She has done an amazing job so far. But now it is my turn, and I will try my best to manage this opportunity. I hope to move the centre closer to the region and vice versa. There is so much knowledge within this centre, and there are so many ways in which we can contribute.
What challenges can you see in this role?
Coming after someone as knowledgeable and efficient as Mikaela Backman will be tough. She has really done a terrific job. But I will do my very best to fill her shoes and maybe also contribute based on my experience.
What do you think of JIBS as a workplace?
Needless to say, I love my workplace. I have been here for more than 20 years, and even if I've been away for some time, JIBS is the place I always return to. It is simply a remarkable place to be with tons of smart and friendly colleagues. It is the colleagues that make this workplace.
What do you like to get up to when you're not on campus?
I spend a lot of time on my work, but I am also somewhat of a gym rat, and Nordic Wellness, across the road, is definitely my second home.
