Open lecture about the role of light in activity and sleep
"Wake to light, sleep to dark: The role of light in activity and sleep". That is the title of the JU Live lecture with Myriam Aries, Professor of Lighting Science at JTH, on 25 September.
"It is a great opportunity to talk about my research area and my projects, but also a challenge to represent JU in the best way," says Myriam Aries.
How did you choose the theme of your lecture?
"As I work with lighting, it may seem that it is only the light that counts, but that exposure to darkness at certain times of the day is equally important. The focus of the field studies we have conducted has been on the impact of light on human performance. Furthermore, sleep is used as an outcome/performance measure for two of the three studies I will present," says Myriam Aries.
She wants to emphasize that despite societal influences, our internal biological clocks are still very strong and demanding.
"I will explain how we can help our internal clock with the right exposure to light and dark at the right time and, indirectly, that we should prioritize sleep," says Myriam Aries. She continues:
"Personally, it is extra exciting for me to lecture at JU LIVE because I do not speak fluent Swedish. I usually like to tell my stories spontaneously and need to find a balance between a rehearsed and spontaneous presentation."
Myriam Arie's JU LIVE lecture will be held at 16.00-17.00 on 25 September in the JMW Hall at the University Library. The event is free and open to all. We offer coffee and tea.
