Orange Week at the library
During this week (21–27 November), Orange Week takes place around the world. The aim is to spread knowledge about men's violence against women and violence in close relationships. Several organisations and companies in Jönköping participate and the University Library contributes with an exhibition of books on the subject.
The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the 25 November, was instituted by the UN General Assembly back in 1999. The date was chosen to honour the Mirabal sisters from the Dominican Republic, who were assassinated on the 25 November 1960 after resisting the country's then-dictator, Rafael Trujillo. The Orange Day campaign was added in 2008 and the colour orange was chosen to symbolise a bright and optimistic belief in a world without violence against women.
In the library's exhibition, you will find both fiction and non-fiction on the the subject. During the week, there will also be specific book tips in the library's social media. Feel free to follow us on Instagram or Facebook.
