Applied Analysis in Business and Economics 5 credits
Course Contents
This integrated learning course helps you transition from a student to a practitioner by bridging your academic insights with a real-world application. Through applied analysis, you will investigate organisational and economic challenges, interpret data, and develop actionable insights to inform decision-making in companies. You can complete the course through one of two experiential pathways:
Case Study Pathway:
In this option, you will collaborate with fellow students in a cross-disciplinary team to address a real challenge provided by the school in cooperation with a company. Drawing on economic reasoning and business analysis tools, your team will diagnose the problem, gather and evaluate relevant data, and deliver well-supported recommendations. You will engage closely with peers, faculty, and interact with the company. This pathway emphasises teamwork, applied problem-solving, and the ability to translate theory into practice.
Internship Pathway:
In this option, you will apply your analytical and business skills within a company of your choice. Working on a defined project, you will conduct applied analysis related to business or economic issues, generate insights, and communicate findings that contribute to the company's goals. This internship pathway emphasises independence and professional responsibility, applied problem-solving, and the ability to translate theory into practice.
By taking this course, regardless of pathway, you will gain skills in working with companies, manage complexity, and present well-reasoned conclusions in the form of an industry report to stakeholders. You will develop essential analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills that prepare you for professional roles in business, economics, and related fields.
