Applied Econometrics 5 credits
Course Contents
This course deepens your ability to apply econometric methods to economic research questions and prepares you to conduct your bachelor’s thesis. Based on previous economics, econometrics and data analysis courses, it focuses on how economists use empirical methods to form and test hypotheses, evaluate policies, and interpret causal relationships in real-world data.
Through a combination of lectures and applied exercises replicating reputable economic studies, you will strengthen your understanding of how variables relate to one another and how to specify, estimate, and interpret econometric models in different contexts. The course focuses on the practical use of relevant methods in applied econometrics with an emphasis on research design and causal inference.
A central component of the course is the development of your bachelor’s thesis research proposal, in which you will formulate an empirical research question, identify relevant data sources, and outline an econometric approach. Feedback sessions and seminars will help you refine your proposal and improve your ability to present and discuss empirical work.
After completing the course, you will be able to design a feasible and well-grounded empirical study in economics, apply econometric methods to answer economic questions, and critically evaluate the quality and credibility of empirical evidence.
