Business Venturing 5 credits
Course Contents
Modern economies rely on entrepreneurial ventures to foster growth, generate employment, and address complex societal challenges. Knowing how new ventures emerge and how entrepreneurial thinking extends beyond start-ups is essential in international contexts, where market and culture nuances and varying regulatory environments influence the likelihood of business success. This course is designed to develop your skills and understanding so that, whether you intend to establish your own enterprise, join an early-stage venture, or act entrepreneurially within an established organisation, you are equipped to identify and shape opportunities in global settings.
The course covers four key thematic areas: 1) Entrepreneurial Mindset and Action; 2) Opportunity Recognition and Contextual Understanding; 3) Team Building; 4) Entrepreneurial go-to-market and Communication. These themes build your knowledge of the entrepreneurial venture life cycle in various contexts and provide practical expertise for launching ventures in analog and digital environments. A central component of the course is the New Venture Creation Project, where you apply your learning to real-world entrepreneurial opportunities. This hands-on experience allows you to integrate your knowledge of entrepreneurship— from idea generation to market launch.
Upon completion, you will be able to evaluate entrepreneurial opportunities with critical judgment and translate innovative ideas into viable business models. You will gain the confidence to form and lead diverse teams amidst uncertainty, whilst effectively communicating venture propositions to a range of stakeholders. Whether you pursue your own start-up or contribute entrepreneurial value within established organisations, you will be equipped with practical tools and analytical frameworks to stimulate business innovation.
