Cross-border Logistics and Transportation 5 credits

Course Contents

International freight and logistics operations form the backbone of global trade, yet managing goods movement across borders involves navigating complex regulatory frameworks, diverse transportation modes, and multiple service providers. Supply chain professionals must understand not only technical and operational aspects but also the ethical, environmental, and risk considerations that shape strategic decisions in cross-border trade. This course provides you with a comprehensive understanding of international logistics systems, covering Incoterms, customs procedures, multimodal transportation, and global trade agreements. You will examine the roles, structures, and services of different logistics providers, including 3PLs, 4PLs, and freight forwarders. The course leverages JIBS's location in Jönköping - one of Sweden's most important logistics hubs with strategic access to major Scandinavian markets and transport corridors. Through case studies, data-driven analysis, and guest lectures from regional industry professionals, you will explore real-world logistics challenges while benefiting from direct access to the region's dynamic logistics ecosystem. Upon completion, you will be able to analyse and evaluate international logistics operations and transportation networks using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. You will develop effective and compliant logistics strategies that incorporate service providers, transportation choices, and international trade requirements. You will assess the ethical, environmental, and risk-related implications of logistics decisions, enabling you to make informed, strategic contributions in international logistics environments that balance operational efficiency with sustainability and resilience.
