Digitally Transformed Workplace 5 credits

Course Contents

This course introduces a holistic perspective into how technology has reshaped professional work on local and international levels. In most cases, technological changes have had a positive impact on professional occupations as new areas of work were created and technology helped increase work efficiency. Recently, however, technological change, i.e. digitalization and implementation of AI-driven tools, has also caused uncertainty and ambiguity for professionals within numerous occupational settings, such as accountants, marketing and tech workers, content creators, managers. While current debates have extensively focused on digital technologies, it is important to analyze the human impact of digital transformation on the agents that are implementing technologies in the workplace, i.e. professionals. You will explore how digitalization changed professionals from doing occupational tasks to building collaborative relations with other professions. Through interactive scenario exercises and case studies of global and local companies, you will understand how digitalization brings innovation and efficiency to the workplace but also reconstructs professions and changes employees’ professional identities. Individually and in teams, you will solve digital transformation challenges, such as identifying silos, and ensuring cross-sectional collaboration in complex knowledge-based workplaces. You will learn how to build, acquire and reflect upon your digital capabilities, both tech- and soft skill-wise, to ensure you are prepared for a variety of career paths. After completing this course, you will be equipped with digital capabilities and skills to thrive in cross-departmental and cross-occupational collaborations. You will learn how to navigate the digitally transformed workplace and manage change for a more ethical digital future.
