Global Strategy 5 credits

Course Contents

This course gives you a comprehensive understanding of strategic management in a global context. In an increasingly interconnected and competitive world, organisations must develop, implement, and sustain effective strategies across borders. The course contributes to the programme’s learning goals by helping you understand how global competitive dynamics and an organisation’s internal capabilities influence strategic direction and long-term success in complex international settings. You will work through the strategic management process step by step. First, assess the global competitive dynamics and the external forces shaping an organisation’s global environment, alongside its internal capabilities. Next, formulate strategic choices and conclude with implementation and evaluation. Throughout, you will work with key frameworks, models, and concepts that support strategic thinking and decision-making. Additionally, you will explore how cross-border strategy is affected by factors such as organisational purpose, stakeholder relationships, culture, markets, and institutions. By the end of the course, you will be able to analyse an organisation’s internal capabilities and external global environment and use relevant frameworks and models to support strategic thinking and decision-making. You will apply research-based insights to real strategic challenges through discussions with faculty and guest speakers and by working on live case studies focused on current issues faced by global firms.
