History of Architecture and Renovation 7.5 credits
Course Contents
The course provides students with fundamental knowledge of the renovation process, including technical, economic, ecological, and social aspects.
The course includes the following elements:
- The historical development of architecture from antiquity to the present, divided into stylistic periods.
- The development of building technology with regard to materials, products, and construction details from the 1880s onward.
- Property development and transformation work.
- Methods for technical analysis of existing buildings.
- Cultural-historical evaluation and conservation methods.
- Economic and ecological analysis methods, including LCA and LCC.
- Project assignment where problems and solutions are discussed and presented both orally and in writing.
Prerequisites
General entry requirements and taken courses Building and Geotechnical Engineering, 7.5 credits, Structural Engineering 1, 7.5 credits, and Housing Design, 7.5 credits (or the equivalent).
