Hydraulics and Geotechnics 7.5 credits
Course Contents
The course covers fluid mechanics and soil behaviour in the context of civil engineering, with a focus on principles and practical applications for the planning and implementation of construction projects.
The course includes the following elements:
Hydraulics:
- Applications in hydrostatic pressure.
- Hydraulic pressure against surfaces.
- Continuity considerations for flowing fluids.
- Energy equation and friction losses for pipe flow.
- Channel flow in hydrodynamics.
Geotechnic:
- Soil Mechanics Principles: effective stress, total stress, consolidation, and shear stress, and their significance for geotechnical analysis.
- Seepage and Permeability: Darcy's law, hydraulic conductivity, and consequences for soil stability.
