Managing Projects and Processes 5 credits

Course Contents

This course provides you with a comprehensive introduction to managing projects and processes, and to understanding the role of the project manager in contemporary organisations. Drawing on a coherent best-practice framework, it is structured around the four key project phases—initiate, plan, execute, and close—while also highlighting how project work connects with ongoing organisational processes. You will gain insight into how projects emerge from, interact with, and transform existing processes within and between organisations. For each phase, you will learn and apply established techniques and tools for planning, monitoring, and completing projects effectively, including work breakdown structures, responsibility matrices, Gantt charts, network planning, and earned value analysis. The course also encourages you to reflect critically on the growing “projectisation” of society, exploring how organising work through projects and processes shapes organisational structures, collaboration, and professional life. By combining practical management skills with analytical insight, the course prepares you to participate in and lead projects and process improvements across a range of professional contexts. You will strengthen your ability to organise and deliver complex tasks, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and apply structured methods to achieve goals responsibly and efficiently.
