If you are interested in a future career working closely to the decision-making, and directly influencing your company or organization, then International Economics is the right programme for you.
The programme aims to develop your ability to understand and analyse various types of socio-economic problems and the dynamics of the global economy. You will learn to use economic theory to analyse and evaluate economic problems and processes and understand the underlying factors. The ability to analyse problems in a systematic manner is fundamental to modern economics and permeates the entire programme.
The programme’s major is economics (90 credits). The programme also gives you good knowledge of statistics and econometrics (30 credits). These courses give you the skills and tools needed to process and analyse statistics- which are increasingly in demand today. The programme also includes four courses (total of 30 credits) in business administration, addressing various aspects such as leadership and accounting. Together, the combination of economics, statistics and business forms a good and broad foundation for future career choices and gives you an competitive edge when applying for jobs.
The programme attracts students from all over the world and will give you essential experience and skills in collaborating with individuals from many different cultures.
During the fifth semester you choose between courses in different areas and, if you qualify, you have the opportunity to spend the semester abroad at one of JIBS' partner universities.
JIBS collaborates with many universities around the globe and the exchange programme offers plenty of opportunities to tailor your education, improve language skills and develop a personal international network to boost your career. Most students in the programme take this opportunity and are very satisfied with their experiences abroad.
Another option is to stay at JIBS and find an internship which will give you valuable practical experience.
After completing this programme, you will have gained knowledge and many skills that are in demand in the labour market. Most importantly, you will have developed the analytical skills to understand, integrate and analyse problems. You will gain a new way of thinking and a problem solving approach that can be applied in the sector in which you will be employed. These skills will give you a strong competitive advantage when looking for a job and will also allow you to work closely with decision making in various companies/ organizations. You will be able to process and analyse data and pass on the results to your colleagues and managers. These skills are important both in the private and public sectors. The degree in economics is an internationally recognized qualification, designed to propel you into a global career.
Future work-tasks include market analyses and investigations in various private companies and public organizations, such as financial institutions, large multinational companies, and public organizations. In addition, the education opens up opportunities for work within aid organizations and UN agencies.
Examples of what our students now work with include: Deputy Regional Director (Confederation of Swedish Enterprise), Credit Analyst (Nordea), Market Analyst (ADB Consulting Europe, Albania), and Investment Analyst (Venture Capital at Eurofin Ventures, Switzerland).
