JIBS collaborations with African partner universities has a strong focus to support an enabling environment for research. Only with an active research culture the partner institution have the potential to become a sustainable research institution producing senior researchers on its own.

The challange for many of JIBS partner institutions in Africa is their understandable focus on education. The rapid expansion of the higher education sector has created an increasing demand for PhDs. The PhD produced are mainly used to secure the quality of education. Many of the PhDs produced tend therefore to stop doing research when graduated. JIBS believe it is possible to combine an increased quality of education and to create an enabling environment for research. The results of an emerging research culture within our African collaborations is evidenced by articles, thesis, books and publications as displayed on this website.
