EduCom - equity, sustainability and education

EduCom is the School of Education and Communication research profile at Jönköping University. The profile focuses on educommunication - a combination of education and communication that aims to create more equity and increased access to education, especially for vulnerable groups

EduCom develops new theories and methods that link educommunication with action competence, social justice and social sustainability. The research creates tools and frameworks for understanding and addressing global and local societal challenges, with a particular focus on reducing power differences and increasing access to education and communication for marginalized groups.

In teaching, EduCom contributes to the development of interdisciplinary courses and programs that integrate education and communication with a focus on social sustainability. For the higher education teacher, EduCom offers a new approach in the encounter with the student. Students learn to use methods and theories to create social change and work on concrete projects.

Educommunication in Research

EduCom is the research profile that describes how we approach research and methods in teaching. The profile is inspired by the field of educommunication. Researchers Helena Taubner, Pia Andersson, and Renira Gambarato conducted a knowledge review to help us learn more.

Educommunication in Teaching

Helena Svanängen is a lecturer in special education. She leads a group of teachers within HLK who work on issues such as how educom affects the way of teaching. Through a shadowing circle, they make each other aware of how they influence the teaching.

Projects and Publications

Courses and Conferences

The next EduCom-conference will be held on November 25. In the fall of 2025, the doctoral course EduCom: Bridging Education and Communication for a Sustainable Future, worth 7.5 ECTS, will be offered.
