Ulrika Bergsten

The main purpose of the thesis is to explain and describe the cause and management of RA as  described by patients and healthcare professionals. Ulrika is working as a nurse at Spenshult Hospital for Rheumatic diseases. The research interest is derived from the clinical everyday life. Her curiosity is based on how to improve nursing care for the patients with rheumatic diseases.
Rheumatology has undergone major changes in recent years with several different treatment options with good results, but there is little research based on healthcare personnel´s, and especially on patients´ own descriptions. Accordingly the patient perspective is the main focus of the thesis, in order to generate knowledge of how patients perceive and manage their illness.
The thesis is expected to produce knowledge that is relevant to the direct patient care to support self-care in patients with RA and for the training of healthcare professionals. From a societal perspective, it is important that resources, including support of good self-care, are used in a way that is beneficial both for the individual and the society.
