The overall aim is to explore how parents who are overweight and have a child who is overweight experience consultations, weight stigma, ethos, body shape, health, quality of life, as well as how the Child Health Care (CHC) nurses experience these consultations.
Previous research has focused on adults with obesity, parents of a child with obesity but few studies have highlighted the situation of overweight parents who have an overweight child and the contact with the Child Health Care nurse regarding the child´s overweight.
In this research study, Child Health Care (CHC) nurses will be asked to participate in an interview regarding their experiences of the consultation with parents with overweight regarding the overweight of their child. Parents with overweight who have an overweight child are also asked to participate in an interview regarding how they experience the consultation with the CHC-nurse regarding the overweight of their child. They are also asked to answer one web-based survey where the included instruments have been chosen to represent different dimensions that can affect the situation of overweight parents and children who receive consultation from the CHC-nurse regarding the child's overweight. Finally, parents and CHC-nurses are asked to participate in focus groups, to identify how improvements are suggested for an overweight-inclusive environment at the Child Health Care Center.
The results from the research study will describe how parents and CHC-nurses experience the consultation of the overweight child as well as how perceived stigma affects the health and ethos of these parents. Factors related to health, ethos, body image, perceived discrimination, and stigma will also be studied and their impact on parents' perception of the consultation
