Academic Social Responsibility (ASR) 7,5 Credits

This course prepares educational leaders, teachers, and researchers to address local and global challenges of equity and justice in daily professional work. How can you open dialog about controversial issues? How can you engage students, parents, policymakers, and the public in ways that make a meaningful difference? You will learn practical techniques and conceptual principles for how your institution and you as an individual educator can have an impact on society. Instructors include Sangeeta Bagga-Gupta, Francis M. Hult and Ylva Lindberg.

Course Contents

  • Key concepts for talking about topics like integration, racism, migration, poverty, gender, multilingualism, and ecological sustainability
  • Approaches to facilitating conversations about controversial social issues with diverse stakeholders, colleagues and groups at the workplace
  • Engaging strategically with the public using genres such as those in social media, briefs/white papers, roleplay, infographics, blogs, video, among others
  • Real life visits and tests. The student engages with practices at the workplace

Prerequisites

General entry requirements and a bachelor’s degree or professional qualification (from an accredited university) of at least 180 ECTS credits with a minimum of 90 credits in educational sciences, social sciences, or related field, including independent, theoretical based work, i.e. a thesis or the equivalent. Proof of English proficiency is required. Exemption is granted from the requirement in Swedish.
