Overview
The programme is interdisciplinary and you will gain skills to work professionally with children in need of extra support. Among other things, you will learn to integrate children in everyday activities and help them in their development, functioning and learning.
The programme is connected to the research group CHILD (Children, Health, Intervention, Learning, Development), which collaborates in broad national and international networks. During the education, CHILD researchers share knowledge and experiences from their work with children with special needs. When you write your thesis, the network offers guidance in current research projects, both for international and Swedish students.
The programme is offered as a one year, 60 credits, or two years, 120 credits.
Internationalisation
The programme is attended by many foreign students from our partner universities, which gives it an International feel. Several courses are given in English and some courses have guest lecturers from other parts of Europe, North America, Africa and Asia, which provides broad global perspectives. Some courses are held in collaboration with South Africa.
After graduation
The programme develops you as a leader and prepares you for a career in child-related organisations. The education gives you the opportunity to study further at the doctoral programme in the subject. After graduation, you have special competence in Specialisations of Disability Sciences, Health and Care Sciences, Special Education, or Welfare and Social Sciences. This makes you attractive to future employers in several areas where children's health and participation in everyday life are in focus. Examples of workplaces are preschool, school, special education, rehabilitation, social welfare, intervention/habilitation and child health care.
