## About the programme
In a world increasingly defined by digitalisation and globalisation, organisations need professionals who can combine deep theoretical knowledge with advanced data-driven methods. This programme equips you with the ability to apply economic reasoning, statistical methods, and AI tools to complex challenges in business, government, and society.
You will gain advanced knowledge in micro- and macroeconomic theory, econometrics, and applied data analysis, while also working hands-on with large datasets and modern programming tools such as Python. A strong focus on causal inference and applied econometrics ensures that you can translate complex data into evidence-based insights that create real-world impact.
### Bridging economics, data, and practice
At JIBS, theory and practice are closely intertwined. The curriculum combines rigorous coursework in economics and econometrics with applied projects, case studies, and real-world data. You will work on challenges facing businesses, policymakers, and institutions, developing not only analytical expertise but also valuable skills in communication and project management.
Courses also emphasise the ethical use of data and how economic analysis can contribute to sustainability, resilience, and innovation. This integration of theory, data analysis, and applied learning prepares you to operate at the intersection of economics, technology, and policy.
You can further customise your degree by choosing electives, spending a semester abroad at one of JIBS’ many partner universities, completing an internship in Sweden or internationally, or even pursuing a second specialisation. The final semester is dedicated to a master’s thesis (30 ECTS), where you apply your knowledge to a focused topic in applied economics or data analysis.
### Your future career
Graduates of Applied Economics and Data Analysis are highly sought after for their ability to combine economics with advanced data analytics and programming. You could take on roles as an economist or policy analyst in government or international organisations, a data analyst or scientist in consulting and research, or a financial or business analyst in banks and corporations. Many also continue into doctoral studies.
With your unique mix of applied economics, econometrics, and data science skills, you’ll be well prepared to influence policy, drive business strategies, and create meaningful impact in the global digital economy.
