Second conference and three new books

On June 20-22 the second international conference EABEW was organised, together with College of Business and Economics at University of Rwanda.

93 presentations were held from 22 different countries, 30% more presentations than last year. 33 presentations from Rwanda alone is a sign of an emerging research culture. Our regional links are evidenced by 18 presentations from Ethiopia. We had 6 key note speakers, being world leading academicians in their field.

From last year’s conference (2015) we presented a good record of publications, among worth mentioning are 50 peer-reviewed articles in three books published by Springer:

  • Economic Integration, Currency Union, and Sustainable and Inclusive Growth in East Africa
  • Poverty and Well-Being in East Africa - a Multi-faceted Economic Approach
  • Entrepreneurship and SME Management Across Africa - Context, Challenges, Cases.

The books where given as a gift to the Minister of Education, Dr Papias Musafiri, by the UR vice-chancellor professor Phil Cotton, at the opening of this year’s conference. We will share copies of the publications to Sida in Rwanda and Ethiopia as well as Sida Stockholm.

At the conference we also launched our two web-based East African Research Paper (EARP) series with 17 papers at the introduction. All our regional partners will appoint deputy editors to be part of our capacity building efforts. The EARP series is yet another quality platform for our African colleagues to make their research known for the international community of researchers.

As agreed within our regional network EID (Entrepreneurship and Innovation for Development) the conference will start circulating among African EID partner countries. We hope to see the conference hosted by Addis Ababa University in 2017.
