Milad Ashourpour is Assistant Professor in Robotic Automation at Jönköping School of Engineering (JTH), Jönköping University, where he also serves as Program Manager for the MSc Program in Production Engineering and Automation.

Research and teaching
His current work centers on automation and robotics for manufacturing and assembly operations. This includes simulation, offline and online programming of robotic cells, virtual commissioning, end of arm tooling design and rapid prototyping, and lab based feasibility testing. His applied research also extends into sensor based quality inspection and predictive maintenance, drawing on both visual and acoustic monitoring of production processes, alongside deep learning methods for structured, time series industrial data and point cloud processing and trajectory planning for robotic applications.

He teaches at the MSc level across this same area, with lectures covering:

  • Automation and robotics in production and assembly
  • Robot programming for offline and online operation
  • Simulation and virtual commissioning of robotic cells
  • Sensor based approaches to quality control and predictive maintenance through ML/AI applications

He also engages with regional and national industry partners and contributes to EU funded research initiatives.

Background
Earlier in his career, he combined hands on experience in industrial manufacturing, including injection molding, with doctoral research on production based on Additive Manufacturing (AM), focused on manufacturability analysis covering both technical feasibility and economic viability, spanning new product development as well as improving functionality, reducing waste, and increasing efficiency of existing products across production and use phases.

  • Postdoctoral researcher, JTH (2021)
  • PhD, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Università degli Studi di Brescia, Italy (2017)
  • MSc, Industrial Engineering, Politecnico di Milano, Italy (2013)
