Research

The requirements on products are constantly changing. They are e.g. to be made more environmentally friendly, lighter, leaner, more resilient, and more beautiful and preferably at the same time cost less. My research involves how to go about to meet all these new and changing demands. It may concern new tools which can make the experiences from previous products more easily available for the designers. It may also involve automating the repetitive part of the designer’s work so that time is freed for more creative endeavors.
The research is conducted in close cooperation with companies. They allow me to study their daily work in the actual environment. This allows me to directly test new ideas and to evaluate them. The new experiences can quickly bring about change since the companies have been closely involved and have contributed to the results.

Biography

After finishing the degree of Master of Science at Lund University I worked in product development for a few years in the automotive industry. It involved mostly the development of injection moulded and sheet metal parts. In 2003 I began as a PhD student in JTH and graduated in 2008. My thesis is entitled “CAD-model Parsing for Automated Design and Design evaluation". Since then I have been working in research and teaching mostly in machine elements, mechanics, CAD, product development and recently additive manufacturing.
