Doctoral Student
Research School of Health and Welfare , School of Health and Welfare

A community physical therapist, Katherine Stevenson has worked in health care improvement since 2004 when she joined the Health Quality Council (HQC) in Saskatchewan, Canada. In her time with the HQC, Katherine developed a passion for teaching and learning about quality improvement science in health sciences programs. She developed and delivered uni- and interprofessional QI curricula in nursing, medicine, physical therapy, pharmacy, nutrition, and community health and epidemiology.  In 2009, she was offered the opportunity to enroll as a doctoral candidate at the Jönköping Academy for the Improvement of Health and Welfare.

Katherine’s research aims to understand faculty beliefs about and their experiences with curriculum design, educational activities, and outcomes in programs implementing quality improvement and interprofessional education in order to contribute to health sciences education theory and practice. The results of her dissertation will yield mid-range theory regarding context, mechanisms, and outcomes in quality improvement and interprofessional health sciences education and will, hopefully, contribute to bridging these two emerging and complementary competency domains.

Katherine holds a B.A. Honours in English (1996), a B.Sc. in Physical Therapy (1999), and a M.Sc. in Community Health and Epidemiology (2003), all from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada.
