The Global Studies program is a three-year program that prepares students for qualified work within global issues in various organisations in Sweden and/or abroad.

The program combines both practical and theoretical experiences to give the students an understanding of the development of society and how it has changed the conditions for people and the environment.

Global studies consist of the disciplines cultural geography, political science and sociology and focus on three central global challenges - sustainable development, peace and conflict and migration and integration.

The program also includes leadership, project management and organisational theory.

Exchange studies

In the 4th semester, the students have the opportunity to study one semester abroad at one of Jönköping University’s partner universities. The purpose is to either deepen the student’s knowledge of global studies or to enrich the program with other academic courses (e.g. language, marketing, or finance).

Some courses in the program are conducted in English and offered to exchange students. For more information about the courses we offer for incoming students, please visit the International Office website:

Internship

Internship is a 10-week course that qualifies for 15 credits. The course is offered in the 5th semester (weeks 43 – 51). The purpose of the course is to allow students to put into practice the theoretical knowledge and skills they have acquired. At the same time, they can establish contacts and networks for the future.

In Sweden and abroad, the program has well-developed collaborations with foreign aid organisations, government agencies, non-profit organisations, and private companies.

Degree

The programme leads to a Bachelor of Science with a specialisation in global studies (180 credits).

Career prospects

The Global Studies program provides a solid education in social sciences and gives students tools for high-level work in many different fields such as migration and integration, international development, peacekeeping and sustainable development. The program is intended to appeal to students who want to pursue a career in an international environment in Sweden and/or abroad. This includes working with global issues in government agencies, private companies, or NGOs. There are also a range of job opportunities within the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Master

We also offer a master environment which is composed of three different master programmes within the fields of Media and Communication Studies, Education, and Global Studies, with a joint thematic focus on sustainability.
