Title: Reduced Responsibility through Supply Chain Design
Abstract
Much of supply chain research is concerned with improving efficiency and effectiveness. It includes issues such as strategic alignment, manufacturing location, and flow efficiency. Recently, various internal and external stakeholders have asserted pressure on companies to take increased responsibility for the effects that the supply chain has on society and the environment. This can be seen in legislation and through the actions of consumer advocacy groups. Unfortunately, many supply chains are poorly capable of living up to these demands, because the supply chains are not designed for responsibility – but for profit. As a result, non-compliance with responsibility guidelines has been considered to be the norm rather than the exception, and when responsibility is taken the supply chain is poorly capable of keeping costs in check. The lecture will give an insight into how supply chain design can dull the sense of responsibility for people in the supply chain, and highlight some specifically challenging areas inherent to global supply chains.

Esther Fika
In 2014 the ESTHER project helped Jönköping to make CNN's list of the top ten healthiest cities in the world together with Copenhagen, Okinawa, New York, Melbourne and other cities. In 2017 the ESTHER network was named as ''the best initiative to support active and healthy aging". With this review and in competition with 600 nominees, ESTHER received a distinguished prize from the EU at the conference "Opening Up an Era of Social Innovation".
Nicoline Vackerberg, Coordinator of the Esther Network International, Operations Developer at the Highland Health Care Center and Assistant Professor at the Jönköping Academy, will be talking on ESTHER together with two ESTHER patient representatives Johan and Marie Winald Karlsson.
This event is public and free of cost. It will take place in classroom 231 at Grännaskolan. Sign up at the latest on Tuesday 24th April by sending an email with ''your name+ESTHER FIKA'' to xiaoli.nordenankar@ju.se.
Esther Fika is an opportunity to get to know the basics and essence of ESTHER's work. Read more here.

Abstract
Mass-customization is one of the most important production strategy for manufacturing companies to stay competitive today. Its primary objective is to maximize customer satisfaction by providing customer specific solutions with near mass-production efficiency. Companies that succeeded to reap the benefits of mass-customization decades could in many segments secure a competitive advantage and outpace their competitors. To achieve a high degree of product customization (or even personalization) an increasing number of companies automate their engineering processes so that the customization is based not merely on standardized pre-manufactured modules but also on technical solutions adapted to each specific order. This movement is commonly referred to as design automation and has its roots not only in mechanical engineering but also in computer science. The lecture gives you inspiring examples of how engineering design automation can be applied in practice and points out challenges currently faced by academia and industry.
