Previous research on violent radicalization has focused on individuals who have been radicalized. Thus, there are no empirical studies of how individuals have shown resilience when faced with recruitment attempts. Such knowledge is important to be able to formulate better strategies to counter violent radicalization. This study focuses on recruitment to violent Islamist organizations in Sweden and investigates what has contributed to individuals’ resilience to recruitment efforts by violent Islamist groups, as well as what future strategies are needed and can be expected to work to counter violent radicalization. The project is financed by the Swedish Center for Preventing Violent Extremism (CVE).
